The 4th GREEN CHEMISTRY CONFERENCE will be held at the Parc Científic de Barcelona, Baldiri Reixac, 4-6. Barcelona, Spain (see map on the next page) on November 11-12, 2002. The Parc is located at the upper end of "The Diagonal", one of Europe’s most prestigious financial, business and commercial avenues. It is surrounded by two important cultural sites in the Pedralbes area: the Pedralbes Royal Palace and the Pedralbes Monastery (Thyssen art collection).
The Conference desk will be located next to the main entrance at Parc Científic de Barcelona.
Conference fees include coffees and lunch. Coffees and lunch will be served during the breaks at the Hall.
If you are using the Metro (Subway), the nearest station is "Zona Universitaria station” on the Green Line.
Buses number 7, 63, 67, 74, and "Tombus" stop also

Useful tips about Barcelona
Health and Insurance
All participants are advised to make necessary arrangements for short-term health
and accident insurance in their own country before departure. The Conference
fees do not include insurance.
Tipping
Until some years ago it was customary to tip everyone, even the attendant who
helped you find a seat in a cinema. Currently the situation is changing and
there are no set rules. Taxi drivers will not shut the door on your fingers
if you do not tip them, but will be most appreciative if you do. In restaurants
there is no expectation of a 10% tip but is the custom to leave something.
Mail
Stamps may be purchased at any tobacco shop. Mail boxes are yellow with separate
slots.
Power supply
The electricity in most buildings in Barcelona is 220/240 V. Be careful if your
hair dryer or electric razor operate on 125 V.
ORGANIZERS:
IUCT:
The "Institut Univ. de Ciència i Tecnologia" (IUCT), is a Centre for Technological Innovation and Development, dedicated to scientific research, technological development, scientific services and post-graduation education, the objective of which is the development, implementation and promotion of new technologies and products for the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Fine Chemicals, Environmental, Biotechnological and related industrial sectors. Throughout its history, IUCT has accumulated a great deal of experience in working with companies from these sectors, developing all types of specific projects.
IUCT was officially established in November 1997. In order to promote research activities, in March 1999 the Scientific Council was created, which meets twice a year. His objective is to establish a close relationship between IUCT and companies. They indicate their preferences and, based on these, IUCT obtains a guide so as to be able to target its future projects in the field of research and development.
In April 1999, a research co-operation agreement was signed between the Association of Spanish Fine Chemicals Manufacturers (AFAQUIM) and IUCT. As a result of this agreement, AFAQUIM has given its support to the research projects developed at IUCT, especially those that come under the title of "Green Chemistry".
Since February 2000, IUCT has been the headquarters of the Green Chemistry Institute of Spain, affiliated to the Green Chemistry Institute of the United States. The GCI's mission is to promote Green Chemistry research and education by means of collaboration between government, industry and national laboratories.
In October 2000, IUCT was invited by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) to take part in the "Workshop on Research and Development in the Context of Green Sustainable Chemistry", which took place in Tokyo. The objective of the working conferences was to set out the lines of ACTION of the OECD in the area of Green Chemistry.
IUCT is a founder member of the Spanish division of the European Society of Combinatorial Sciences, a society founded in 1999, to which the major European laboratories working in Combinatorial Chemistry belong.
In May 2001, IUCT participated at the "Expert Group Meeting on Clean Technologies for Sustainable Chemistry and Pollution Reduction and Prevention", which took place in Italy and was organised by the International Centre for Science and High Technology and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, UNIDO.
In June 2001, IUCT was invited by the IUPAC and the University of Colorado to take part as members of the future actions committee of the "IUPAC CHEMRAWN XIV. Green Chemistry: Toward Environmentally Benign Processes and Products", the first world-wide congress on Green Chemistry.
In September 2001, IUCT presented its program on Green Chemistry Education at the IUPAC-OECD Workshop on Green Chemistry Education, held in Venice, Italy.
IUCT has been the organiser of the Green Chemistry Conference in Spain since 1999. The Conference has been held annually in Barcelona.
During 2003 IUCT has participated in a foundation of Spanish
Network of Green Chemistry.
